A letter from a man in Wichita Falls has a lot of people talking. Ed Barnett wrote a letter to the editor of his hometown paper, the Wichita Times Record News, stating that he would not be able to pay his taxes this year ostensibly because of the taxes he had already incurred. Barnett, who has since been interviewed by newspapers from L.A. to Chicago (literally) said that he does, in fact, plan to pay his taxes and is surprised by the reaction his letter has gotten.
My only question to Barnett would be: If you’ve been paying all these taxes (and it’s quite a list, check out the document below) how do you still owe the IRS? I mean, shouldn’t you be getting a refund? I can understand how a guy who’s been getting taxed like this would be upset about ponying up at tax time, although I think Barnett’s real beef should be with his tax guy.
My only hope is that Ed Barnett doesn’t become the new Joe “the Plumber.” Not because I don’t love Joe “the Plumber,” but because I wouldn’t want to have Ed Barnett suffer the pain of sitting at a book signing all alone for two hours because no one wants to have him sign their book.
I’m not typically one to jump on the “Wow, [insert celebrity's name here] looks really fat in those new pictures,” because we’ve all put on a bit of weight every now and then.
