The California Supreme Court handed down it’s decision on the controversial case brought after the passage of ballot proposition 8, otherwise known as prop 8.

The Supreme Court voted almost unanimously (6-1) against the case, which would have overruled prop 8 according to state law. Proponents and opponents of proposition 8 lined up outside the state court building to await the verdict, which was handed down around 10 a.m. Pacific time. In addition to issuing a ruling and opinion on the case, the Supreme Court also released a press release outlining its thoughts on the matter.
