Newt Gingrich has once again painfully illustrated old politicians painful lack of cool.

The former Speaker of the House had his lawyers draft a cease and desist letter to an organization known as The Truth About EFCA.org for a post the group made on the social networking site twitter. The twitter account has since been renamed “Gingrich Clown Award” and sports a picture of the politician in full clown makeup with a pointed blue hat.

EFCA, the Employee Free Choice Act, is a piece of proposed legislation that Gingrich has not been shy about opposing. The C&D letter reports that the pro-EFCA group falsely purports to have been written by Messrs. Gingrich and Anuzis and includes the Mark [ampersand] as well as the Twitter “handles” of the foregoing individuals.

The tweet in question that bears Mr. Gingrich’s name was this:

Unfortunately for Newt, as anyone familiar with Twitter knows, @NAMEHERE does not mean that the post was written by the person in question, but that the message is intended for them. Below is the full cease and desist letter from Gingrich’s lawyers.
