Most Popular Baby Name List 2009
The US Social Security Administration released its annual list of most popular baby names for 2008 today with somewhat surprising results.
The name Barack made, what analysts are considering, perhaps the biggest jump in the history of the list going from number 12,535 in the year 2007 to 2,409 in 2008. The rise in the name’s popularity is surely not a coincidence and experts believe the new Presiden’t popularity with those under 30 will lead to the name cracking the top 1,000 most popular next year.
Another big surprise for the folks at SSA was the rise of Emma as the most popular name in the country. Emma unseeded 12-year reigning champion Emily as the most popular for 2008. Chloe, with a ‘C’ also made it into the top 10 for the first time ever, while Khloe — due in no small part to Khloe Kardashian, sister of socialite Kim — cracked the top 200 at 196. It’s crazy the things people will do because of television.
