Today is a sad day for Hollywood coupledom. It was revealed that Mel Gibson’s wife, Robyn Gibson, officially filed for divorce from the actor today.

After 28 years of matrimony, the fairer Gibson is citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce from the actor. She is asking for joint physical and legal custody of their youngest son Thomas, who will turn 10 tomorrow. She is also seeking jewelry and other property along with spousal support.

Reports have surfaced that the couple had actually been separated for around three years — coincidentally three years ago was right around the time of Gibson’s little episodes with the law, the alcohol and the Jews. The couple have 7 children: Hannah, twins Edward and Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas, who is the only minor, which leads one to believe that Mel’s child support payments may not be too costly. However, given recent settlements by celebs like Eddie Murphy, one child could be enough to justify a very tidy sum.
