Long Beach’s own Skylar Deleon — the former Power Ranger turned murder suspect — was sentenced to the death penalty today for his role in the slayings of three people in Orange County Superior Court.

Deleon was convicted of the murder of Thomas and Jackie Hawks as well as another unrelated homicide. It was alleged that Deleon along with his wife, Jennifer, tied the couple to an anchor and threw them overboard in 2004.

Deleon was reportedly the mastermind of the murders and as such he was given a steeper sentence than the other members of the group. Jennifer was found guilty on two counts of first degree murder on November 17, 2006, after only four hours of jury deliberation. In October 2007, Jennifer was sentenced to two life terms without the possibility of parole.

Deleon had been a fairly successful child actor, who was most notable for his appearance on the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” television show, but as he got older he found parts harder and harder to come by.

Since he has been locked behind bars, Deleon has allegedly attempted to have his father and cousin killed and cut his own penis with a razor blade. This combined with overwhelming evidence and the fact that Deleon’s lawyers eventually decided to admit that Deleon had committed the murders, led to an early and easy conviction. There was, however, a bit of surprise when he was sentenced to death today.

The document below details the charges facing Deleon as he stood trial and gives the specifics of his involvement.
