Blagojevich Affidavit

Disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich was officially indicted today on multiple charges. The governor has been declaring his innocence and the existence of an unfounded “witch hunt” since charges of his attempts to sell President Obama’s vacant US Senate seat first surfaced.

The indictment includes 16 felony counts, including racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud, extortion conspiracy, attempted extortion and making false statements to federal agents. If convicted, he faces more than 300 years in prison and at least $4 million in fines, plus restitution.

There is little doubt among anyone that has witnessed any part of Blagojevich’s recent media circus that the governor will plead not guilty - at least to begin with.

The governor was caught on court-approved wiretaps seemingly attempting to sell the seat to the highest bidder. He at one point added that he might appoint himself if he could not get anything for the seat. When he eventually chose Roland Burris to replace Obama, igniting even more controversy.

Blagojevich is currently free on bond, but no one is quite sure just how long that will last.
