It’s award season even in the NFL. And while a SAG strike might derail the Oscars, the NFL Pro Bowl looks as though it will go on according to plan.

Pro Bowl rosters were recently announced for both conferences with no lack of interesting and exciting picks headed for Honolulu. While it is certainly true that no one watches the actual game, it’s always exciting when the Pro Bowl selections are announced. The selections give fans, critics and bloggers all something to talk about.

This year’s selections seem to really embody the spirit of changing of the guard going on in the NFL. There are only a handful of perennial Pro Bowl players on the list and a host of second and third year players making the grade, alongside quite a few Pro Bowl virgins. As is usual for the Pro Bowl winning teams are rewarded with multiple selections, whereas players on teams near the basement of the league continue to get no Pro Bowl love.
