Pyloric Stenosis
Pyloric Stenosis (or infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis) is a condition in which the opening of the stomach to the intestines becomes small due to hypertrophy of the muscles surrounding it. It is present in kids in the first few months of their lives. American Idol singer Clay Aiken’s infant son has been diagnosed with the condition and upon discovery immediate surgery was recommended. In this condition frequent vomiting occurs.
Pyloric stenosis also occurs in adults where the cause is usually a narrowed pylorus due to scarring from chronic peptic ulceration. This is a completely different condition from the infantile form.
