The Mexican Independence Day is celebrated on 16th September every year. Mexico earned its independence from Spain on September 27, 1821 after a decade of war with its colonial master. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Roman Catholic priest from the small town of Dolores, near Guanajuato is considered to be the father of the Mexican effort for independence. His war cry, the Grito de Dolores, is considered to be the first and most powerful exhortation that led to the first battle of Dolores and within a short span of 10 years, Mexico earned its freedom from Spain.
