Methomyl is a highly toxic carbamate insecticide that has been in use since 1966. Common names include metomil and mesomile. Trade names include Acinate, Agrinate, DuPont 1179, Flytek, Kipsin, Lannate, Lanox, Memilene, Methavin, Methomex, Nudrin, NuBait, Pillarmate and SD 14999.

Methomyl is used primarily as an insecticide for plants but earlier it was used as a broad spectrum insecticide. At present use of methomyl is restricted to control ticks and spiders and also for foliar treatment of vegetables. Methomyl is not phytotoxic, which means that it does not hurt the plants even when used on them but if it finds its way into the food chain it can do great harm to humans.
