Barbara Warren, a 65 year old triathlete who died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital after being taking off the ventilator. She was competing in the Santa Barbara Triathlon on Saturday when she crashed “on a downhill road about halfway into the 34 mile bicycle portion of the event.” - Race director Joe Coito said. There is no specific word yet of how exactly this unfortunate event happened, but the crash was so terrible that left her paralyzed and breathing with the aid of a ventilator. She could communicate with her relatives by nodding her head and blinking her eyes. That is how she let her sister Angelika Drake know that she was ready to be taken off the ventilator and let go.
