The Goblin Shark enjoys the rare distinction of being the sole living representative of the family Mitsukurinidae. The shark prefers deep waters and is found below depths of 200 m. It has an unusual appearance with a trowel shaped protuberance over its mouth, it is pink in color and truth be said it does not make a pretty picture.

This particular variety of shark is most commonly found off the seas of Japan; its diet include crabs, fish, and squid. The creature derives its name Goblin Shark from Japanese fishermen who felt that its snout resembled a similar part of a Japanese goblin Tengu’s face.
