The wall arch is no more. One of the most famous and most photographed monuments at the Arches National Park has been claimed by the elements. The arch, one of the many at the park, fell Monday night a victim to erosion, gravity and denudation. The arch is along Devils Garden Trail, one of the most popular in the park. For years, the arch has been a favorite stopping point for photographers.

The Wall Arch was made up of entrada sandstone and got carved into its enduring shape over the eons. The arch was discovered in 1948 and was the 12th largest of the park’s estimated 2,000 arches. The arch measured 33 feet tall and 71 feet across. This is the first major arch in the park to fall after Landscape Arch fell in 1991. The arch fell unseen though certainly not unsung.
