Mark Spitz

Olympics

Mark Spitz is the gold standard by which Olympic athletes are measured even today after almost 30 years of Spitz’s exploits in Munich in 1972. Mark Spitz won 7 gold medals and created 7 world records in all the events that he had entered. All this in a span of one week. His earlier foray in the 1968 Olympics had yielded two gold medals even though he had brashly predicted that he would win six.

Mark Spitz is the only athlete to have won seven golds in a single Olympics and one of the four to have won nine Olympic golds. “Sports Illustrated” voted Mark Spitz as one of the six greatest Olympians ever and the greatest 20th century athlete in water sports.
