Battlestarbook

January 5th, 2009

In an ode to Battlestar Galactica, one Docstoc user has created battlestarbook, a take on the facebook newsfeed consisting entirely of Battlestar Galactica characters and news. This newsfeed is three pages long and details the latest happenings of the newly reincarnated series now airing on the Sci-fi Network.

If you haven’t seen the new version of the show (adopted from the 1978 series), it stars Edward James Olmos as Admiral William Adama. The show hasn’t been immensely successful in the ratings department, but it has spawned quite a fan following, as evidenced by the fact that someone took the time to put this battlestarbook together in the first place.

To get a better idea of just how much people care about Battlestar Galactica here in 2009, check out the plot summary from imdb.com, written by Kenneth Chisholm. This description will also help you understand who and what is being discussed in battlestarbook, in case you’re not already a super fan.

“The second war against the Cylons is over and The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed. Now Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galatica and President Laura Roslin lead a ragtag fleet of refugees in a supposed search for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many which compound an already difficult situation. In addition to the Cylons hunting and attacking the fleet in space, their infiltrator units carry out a more subtle plot even as their former unwitting pawn, Gaius Baltar, helps in the hunt for them while hiding both his own guilt and the strange presence that haunts his every thought. If that wasn’t enough, the fleet also faces internal political conflict in which the rabble-rousing figure, Tom Zarek, is merely the loudest dissenting voice. In the midst of these trials however, clues begin to appear that suggest that Adama’s simple bluff about Earth may be more truthful than anyone could have guessed.”

President-elect Obama to Host Commander-in-Chief’s Ball

January 2nd, 2009

Breaking with his mantra of change, President-elect Obama will be reprising the Commander-in-Chief’s ball that President George W. Bush began in 2005. The Commander-in-Chief’s ball is a celebratory ball that honors the active duty and reserve military. Other guests will include wounded warriors, purple heart recipients, fallen heroes family members and spouses of deployed military.

Maybe it’s me, but it seems like Barack Obama has been awfully busy for a President-elect. In addition to naming his team, he has also outlined an economic plan, a technology plan and even more for his administration. Hopefully all this preparation will lead to success once he’s in the White House, or at the very least ensure that the strategies are quickly abandoned if they aren’t working, because the last thing it seems like we’ve got is time.

Below is the latest in Presidential functions being taken on by Obama, a press release for the Commander-in-Chief’s ball, which will take place on Jan. 20 at the National Building Museum. Interestingly enough, Jan. 20 happens to be Bush’s last day in office as Commander-in-Chief.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Proposed 2009-10 State Budget

December 31st, 2008

The Governator of California unveiled his most recent budget proposal for the state of California (or Cad-ee-fonia as Ah-nuld might say). Gov. Schwarzenegger has been imposing a string of budget saving cuts and other proposals in efforts to bolster and sustain California’s economy in the midst of the national and economic recession. The governor has been pleading his case for saving California’s economy with a number of local and federal politicians.

The state of California will be facing a $41.6 billion budget gap in the coming year, which, according to the document, is the largest deficit in the state’s history. California is certainly facing trying times and the budget for the 09-10 year reflects some of the changing attitudes toward spending, borrowing and credit in the state. As a traditionally liberal leaning state, with a Republican governor, California is in an interesting position with regard to the economic policies it will implement to offset the sour effects of the struggling economy.

The 2009-10 budget includes provisions for struggling homeowners, new budget cuts and a number of other changes that will — whether successful or not — serve as landmarks for future generations if faced with similar circumstances.

Bristol and Levi Have Baby Boy Named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston

December 30th, 2008

It appears that if nothing else, young Britol Palin has adopted her mother’s proclivity for outre child names. Palin and Levi Johnston welcomed their first child into the world this past weekend and named him Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, according to People Magazine. The Palin family tree now consists of Tripp in addition to children named Trig, Track, Wilow and Piper. The names are certainly original.

Bristol Palin is now 18, as is Levi Johnston. Both of the new parents have dropped out of high school and Levi Johnston’s mother was recently arrested for drug charges. While young Tripp won’t have the benefit of being born as the Vice-President’s grandson, he can take solace in being the grandson of the governor of the nation’s largest state.
